Primary Schools Programme

The Fighter World Primary Schools Programme is designed to give you the greatest flexibility in organising your Stage 1 HSIE Transport Excursion. The HSIE Syllabus provides an opportunity for students to explore transport systems in their local area and focus on the benefits and responsibilities of transport use; interconnections between technologies, workers, users and environments and learn about the roles and responsibilities of people who work in services in the community, both paid and unpaid.

Learning Outcomes

In accordance with the NSW Board of Studies Social Systems and Structures strand, students will investigate ways in which their lives are dependent on the built environment and they will observe ways in which people alter their environment to fulfil their needs. They will gain an understanding about the responsibilities that people have for environmental change, both negative and positive and will be able to add the airport as one of the many aspects of their local area.

Fighter World Visit

An experienced Fighter World guide will address the students and discuss the day to day operations of a complex transport system including the role of Air Traffic Control, Airfield Rescue and Fire Fighting, refuelling operations, airfield safety and the impact of aviation transport on the environment. The students will be allowed to explore the Fighter World complex and sit in a real jet fighter enjoying a close up experience with some of Australia’s most famous aircraft.

Fighter World also offers a safe, covered and fully fenced area ideal for lunch while viewing the arrival and departure of the many aircraft that use Newcastle Airport.

Workplace heaLTh and Safety

All Fighter World staff are child safe accredited and risk assessments are available to cover WH&S requirements.
